Next Milestone Achieved: The URBANFILTER Sustainability Hub

With the establishment of the URBANFILTER SUSTAINABILITY HUB, a big step is being taken towards practice. The aim of the HUB is to gain further experience from the use of the various prototypes of the URBANFILTER and to make it available to users, such as municipalities. With an open-source approach, this exchange platform promotes the dissemination and optimization of innovative filter solutions for road drains.

Selective extraction – recovery of important industrial metals

In a new project, the Audi Environmental Foundation, together with the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, is researching a recycling process for the recovery of strategically important metals that are necessary for modern technologies. Mobile use of second-life batteries

As part of a collaborative project, the startup Nunam and Audi apprentices in Neckarsulm developed an electric rickshaw powered by battery packs that had previously been used in Audi e-tron vehicles. The project aims to improve access to transport services that may support income-generating activities for women in India. According to the current project plan, three electric rickshaws and associated charging stations are planned for deployment in India for goods transport.

Together Against Plastic Waste in Thailand’s Rivers

The Audi Environmental Foundation supported a cleanup mission by the startup everwave for the third time. In 2023, the target was the Chao Phraya River and its canal system in Thailand. From May to December, the high-tech waste collection boat CollectiX removed plastic waste from the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Complementing the cleanup efforts, recycling systems were established for the first time to collect, sort, and process the recovered waste.

Pilot project for the reuse of used battery modules in electric rickshaws

The German-Indian start-up "Nunam" is building three e-rickshaws for use on India's roads. The innovative heart of the e-rickshaws is the power storage system with battery modules from Audi e-trons. These are battery modules from the Audi e-tron test car fleet, which are given a second life in the e-rickshaws.

Geomonitoring is not only an important foundation for the preservation of the significant cultural landscapes of the orchard meadows, but also enables to raise awareness of residents through an online database for tree sponsorship.

The Audi Environmental Foundation and Audi do Brasil support the NGO Litro de Luz Brasil, which aims to give people in remote areas without electricity access to solar lighting. The project in the Amazon region, scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2022, will equip three villages with solar-powered lamp posts and hand lamps, thus improving people's quality of life.

Using telemetry technology to protect the curlew

In Germany the curlew is one of the species threatened with extinction. Therefore years ago the “Landesbund für Vogelschutz” (LBV) initiated a project to protect the curlew population. The Audi Environmental Foundation is helping to finance a new telemetry system with stationary receivers that are being tested in the field to locate curlew families.
