Selective extraction – recovery of important industrial metals

In a new project, the Audi Environmental Foundation, together with the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, is researching a recycling process for the recovery of strategically important metals that are necessary for modern technologies. The developed process of selective extraction enables the environmentally friendly recycling of indium, gallium and tin and enables them to be returned to the value chain.

Mobile use of second-life batteries

The idea of building an e-rickshaw from second life components inspired the trainees in various technical professions at AUDI AG. So, a group of 14 trainees at the Neckarsulm site got together and, with the support of their Training Manager Timo Engler, built a show car where, in addition to the battery modules, several other second-life components from Audi models were reused.

Pilot tests with socio-ecological added value

The German-Indian start-up "Nunam" is building three e-rickshaws for use on India's roads. The innovative heart of the e-rickshaws is the power storage system with battery modules from Audi e-trons. These are battery modules from the Audi e-tron test car fleet, which are given a second life in the e-rickshaws.

Geomonitoring of Orchard Meadows: Successful Project Conclusion

After numerous drone flights, analyzed infrared images, and the hard work of researchers at the Heidelberg University of Education, we can look back on a successful partnership. Geomonitoring is not only an important foundation for the preservation of the significant cultural landscapes of the orchard meadows, but also enables to raise awareness of residents through an online database for tree sponsorship.

Audi Environmental Foundation and Litro de Luz bring solar lighting to remote villages in Brazil

The Audi Environmental Foundation and Audi do Brasil support the NGO Litro de Luz Brasil, which aims to give people in remote areas without electricity access to solar lighting. The project in the Amazon region, scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2022, will equip three villages with solar-powered lamp posts and hand lamps, thus improving people's quality of life.

Using telemetry technology to protect the curlew

In Germany the curlew is one of the species threatened with extinction. Therefore years ago the “Landesbund für Vogelschutz” (LBV) initiated a project to protect the curlew population. The Audi Environmental Foundation is helping to finance a new telemetry system with stationary receivers that are being tested in the field to locate curlew families.

Combining environmental protection activities with high-tech research – beehives are equipped with various sensors and the collected data is scientifically analysed to gain a detailed understanding of the bee behaviour and health status of the respective bee colonies.
